Design Thinking is in a dilemma: In order for DT to be taken seriously by the business sector it must show how it can deliver quantifiable value. In order for the design community to embrace DT, it must show how design is accepted as a serious part of the business strategy, without taking a subservient role or sacrificing its integrity.
Observation, Ideation, Iteration, Rapid Prototyping etc…etc…are commonly considered the key principles of DT. Together with “human centered” and an “empathetic” approach to solutions, they represent the current basic philosophy of Design Thinking. I agree. Many articles have been written about it, however, without fine-tuning these parameters, they can, and often are, misunderstood, generalized and easily trivialized.
Although Design is most often used to describe an object or end result, Design in its most effective form, is a process, an action, a verb and not only a noun.
Books...
Based on the Manifesto and the Principles of DT, Design Thinkers are interdisciplinary creativity curators. The books that I recommend contain most of the DNA that helped me in the development of my own personal growth as a Design Thinker. I welcome any recommendations of books, articles, video or audio that can help expand the library. Thank You.
